There is no Such Thing as One Game of Chess.

If you are playing a game, you must think about your opponents moves also. You are not only playing your own side of the board. In order for you to win, you must play your opponents game as well as your own.

I went to a tournament in Green Bay and I was in the first round of a tournament. I was so focused on my own attack that I did not look at his plans. As a result, I lost the game. You must look at your opponents moves also!

The saying is "Check yourself before you wreck yourself!". Follow that rule and you will have lots of successful victories!
