On Saturday, Lake Denoon Middle School hosted our first scholastic chess tournament! With over 130 players in three divisions, it was a great event, drawing very strong players from all over the state! LDMS had 16 players compete in this very challenging USCF rated tournament.
LDMS won 1st place in K-6, and 2nd place in K-12. Great job LDMS Knights! In K-6, Reid Seghers went 5-1 to win the 2nd place trophy, and Jorin McGuire also went 5-1 to win the 4th place trophy. Kolt Otterbacher, Rachel Gomoll, and Josh Bartz went 4-2. Other members of the 1st place K-6 team included Anthony Gajeski, Zeke Baker, Jake Gomoll, Jake Stys, Blake Reeves, David Petak and John Bennett.
In the very tough K-12 Division, Jason Markowski led the way by winning 3 out his 4 games. Jason raised his USCF rating over 200 points, to 963! Evan Seghers had 2.5. Also in the 2nd place K-12 team were Chris Tillson and Brian Schroeder.
Everyone had fun, loved the school, and thought the WSCA did a great job running the event. Thanks to all the parents who helped, especially Glynis Grochowski who did an amazing job of orchestrating things.
NEXT UP: a tournament this Saturday the 23rd at DISCOVERY WORLD! The tournament fee includes a free pass to Discovery World! Details can be found by clicking here, and I will send more information today and tomorrow. As with all tournaments, DO NOT REGISTER ON YOUR OWN- I will register all players- all you have to do is send me an email saying you will attend!
